In Scottsdale a furnace can sit unused for most of the year, which is the reason to have it checked before winter. A Delta technician inspects and tests your heating system, checks the gas connections, lubricates moving parts as needed and replaces the air filter when you provide one. Every visit is documented, so you keep a dated maintenance record for your system. Call (623) 240-9892 to schedule your Scottsdale heating maintenance visit.

Heating Maintenance in Scottsdale: A Mild Winter Still Needs a Working Furnace

Scottsdale Municipal Airport is the mildest of the five Phoenix-area stations on our heating pages. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals show a freeze there in only about 7 years out of 10. The cold still comes: about 29 nights a year reach 40°F or below, and the normal December low is 42.5°F. Half of all years have had a 36°F night by December 11, so there is time in the fall to get the system checked.

A system that runs that little is easy to forget. For gas furnaces and other gas heating appliances, Southwest Gas says a properly operating one should have a clear, steady blue flame, and its winter checklist advises having a licensed contractor inspect a natural gas furnace once a year. That check is what our visit is for, and we tell you what we find before you decide anything.

Because the season is short, the timing is simple: October or November, before the December nights. If a visit turns up a repair you can’t afford, the City of Scottsdale’s Emergency Repair Program offers grants for repairs that affect a home’s habitability, such as a lack of heating; the city decides who qualifies.

HEATING MAINTENANCE

Find Problems Before the First Cold Night

A Scottsdale furnace or heat pump can go months without running in heating mode. Dust settles, parts age, and nobody notices until the thermostat calls for heat. A maintenance visit in the fall is when a worn part or a loose connection gets found, while there is still time to fix it.

Frequently Asked Questions — Heating Maintenance Scottsdale

Scottsdale barely freezes. Does my heating still need a yearly check?

Yes. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Scottsdale Municipal Airport still show about 11 nights at 40°F or below in December, 10 in January and 6 in February. A furnace or heat pump that has sat since spring starts work on those nights, so the check comes first.

A Delta technician inspects and tests your gas furnace or heat pump: heat exchanger, gas connections, venting, safety controls, electrical connections, blower and airflow. We lubricate moving parts as needed and replace the air filter when you provide one. It doesn’t include burner cleaning or adjustment, blower compartment cleaning, a carbon monoxide test or a gas pressure check.

December and January. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Scottsdale Municipal Airport show about 355 heating degree days in December and 312 in January, against about 124 in November and 220 in February. That is why we suggest a visit in October or November.

About three months of cool nights, with shoulders on either side. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Scottsdale Municipal Airport show a normal low of 50.6°F in November, below 50°F from December through February, and 51.7°F in March, with about 107 nights a year at 50°F or below.
